Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic is a non-governmental, nonprofit organization which promotes the right to adequate housing for everyone. Our work started in 1986, and since then, we have served more than 2500 Dominican families with decent and safe housing solutions, for a life time; we support low-income families so they can develop and progress both integrally and sustainably and they can become agents of their own changes and of their communities as well. We have developed projects in Barahona, Polo, Paraiso, Tamayo, Jaquimeyes, Nagua, San Juan de la Maguana, San Francisco de Macorís and Santo Domingo.
At the moment, we are developing projects in San Juan de la Maguana, Haina and Sabana Perdida in Santo Domingo.
We are part of the Habitat for Humanity International network, which operates in approximately 90 countries around the world. Habitat is not a program which gives away housings. It selects families according to some criteria without discrimination, which in addition of its initial and monthly payments of their mortgage, it invests hundreds of hours of their own work-through “mutual aid”- in the construction of their homes as well as the others.
