Cultural Interchange
Your cultural experience began as soon as you were interested in this country, while you read these pages, but the real deal starts when you step in the DR. To enhance your experience we recommend to be open to observe and ask questions, to try to interact with locals on a basic level (we will have Spanish classes the first day), to relate your readings to what you see, to record your experiences in a personal journal.
During the first days in the country, we will have Merengue and Bachata lessons (optional), when you will have the opportunity get the Dominican rhythm in your footsteps. It’s a really fun activity if you don’t worry about it: just let go and enjoy it as a cultural activity.
Besides dancing, we schedule one activity to be done as a specific “Cultural Exchange”. We often do something creative and spontaneous depending on the conditions and offers of the affiliate. We often visit the extension the university (First University of all the American Continent, Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo), and we discuss a bit about the history in those walls, or we might visit different institutions of the town.
We also can schedule a visit to a public school, a game with the workers/families whether dominoes, baseball, visit to the oldest university in the continent, or other things.
